Expertise, Trust and Partnership in Change

Learning and Development

Our 4-Dimension approach develops skills, knowledge and self-insight about leadership and change. We work with people in 4 key ways:

  • Making sense of the changing context, and upcoming demands
  • Support for skills/attitude shift: building up readiness to try the new, and gain some self-insights
  • Stretch: push to think ‘out-of the-box’, take a fresh view, and move new thinking into real action.
  • Exchange and challenge about successes and mistakes; improving practice as a result

Leadership development programmes,
seminars, and conferences

BFA offers tailor-made development programmes to leaders and professionals in organisations. We offer programmes for experienced professionals new to leadership, and for managers and professionals at senior points in their leadership careers.

COMMENTS FROM MANAGERS AND PROFESSIONALS

“I feel this programme has far out-weighed my expectations. I feel a “new person” – clear about my role and direction, who to make connections with.”

“An invaluable opportunity to take time out to participate in an intensive and thought-provoking programme”

“I have really enjoyed and benefited from this development programme. I have gained knowledge and skills and increased my understanding considerably. It has been great fun and energising and has given me a great deal of food for thought.”

OUR LEADERSHIP PROGRAMMES

  • Apply learning to the practical challenges people are facing day-to-day.
  • Offer parallel topic sessions, so people can tailor the time to their own needs.
  • Offer robust theory alongside experiential learning.
  • Offer focused feedback to help people commit to really improving their approach.

We expect people to exit our programmes with much-improved confidence as leaders, feeling they’ve spent productive time getting to grips with the role.

Leadership development programmes for medical professionals

We have a specialist expertise in leadership programmes for medical professionals who want to learn more about organisations, management and change. Organisations commission us to design and lead tailored in-house programmes for medical staff.

COMMENTS FROM MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS

‘I would like to follow up on influencing the organisation in a broader sense - how to make your mark as a young consultant’

‘It showed me I don’t have to be liked!, and that you can’t do things that seem right to everyone… made me ask myself what I stand for as a leader’

Breda Flaherty also leads on Management and Leadership for Doctors at the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine, Brighton & Sussex Medical Schools, where she teaches at Masters level, and supports Masters programmes for health and social care professionals.

‘More Specialist registrars and Consultants would benefit from this teaching, and the Trust would reap rewards” SpR on the IPGM ‘Management for Doctors’ Masters module’

Individual Coaching

BFA’s coaching service offers individual leaders and professionals a more tailored, confidential option for their development.

Individuals use coaching for varied issues: they may be tackling challenging issues in their organisations dealing with ‘difficult’ colleagues, building on career success, or seeking new directions in their professional development.

We work with people over a mutually agreed number of coaching sessions; our philosophy is to encourage strengths, and tackle weaknesses constructively. We support the coaching sessions with diagnostic and self-assessment tools to help individuals to gain insights into their own working approach.
